Indicating Silica Gel

Indicating silica gel visually helps enable users to quickly determine when desiccant needs to be changed or replaced when moisture saturation. Indicating desiccant does this by changing color as it becomes increasingly saturated with moisture. Indicating silica gel popularly used in the market is orange and blue silica gel.

 

Orange Silica gel

 

Orange silicagel is a white gel with moisture indicator that is free of heavy metals and particularly environmentally compatible. Active; up to a water load of approx. 6 % by weight, it is orange; at increasing water adsorption, it turns white. The overall adsorption capacity is at approx. 23 % by weight at 40 % rh. Its benefit compared to the white gel is visual saturation control.

 

Blue Silica Gel

 

 

Blue Silica Gel tends to be less expensive than Orange Silica Gel while still maintaining the same performance standards. However, the use of Blue Silica Gel has been limited due to its ban in the European Union since 1998. Despite this fact, Blue Silica Gel is still available for use in the United States.
